2004-07-27 New impaired driving public awareness campaign
Beyond Time Media produced public service announcements for the Greater Kingston Enhanced RIDE Program and the Trudeau family, whose 15 year-old son Andrew was killed by a drunk driver last October.

The new public awareness campaign will be launched at a press conference on Thursday, July 29, 2004. The campaign features home video clips-donated by the family-of a young Andrew Trudeau and will be played for the first time at the launch. All airtime and ad space to run the campaign have been donated by local media, including K-ROCK 105.7, CKWS TV, The Kingston Whig Standard, Kingston Life, Kingston This Week, The Heritage, The Frontenac News, Kingston This Week, and Napanee Guide.

Check back here for more information on the campaign after Thursday's launch.

2004-07-29 Using home video to stop drinking and driving
The local Enhanced RIDE Program’s latest public awareness campaign aims to hit home with television viewers, radio listeners, and newspaper readers across the area. The new campaign, launched earlier today in Kingston, uses home videos of a young boy and his father to raise awareness of the reality and devastation of impaired driving. The home videos, donated to the Enhanced RIDE Program by the Trudeau family, were shot in 1991 and show a then two-year-old Andrew Trudeau fishing on a camping trip, playing in his father’s boat, getting ready for his first day of school, and washing his father’s ATV. On October 5, 2003 Andrew Trudeau was killed and three of his friends were seriously injured after they were hit by a drunk driver north of Kingston, Ontario. With the help of the Trudeau family, the Enhanced RIDE Program has been able to strengthen its message, and the campaign will give greater awareness to the purpose of RIDE: to reduce impaired driving everywhere.

For the Trudeau family, using their home videos and photos to spread the message about the devastation of drinking and driving is important. “We don’t want any family to go through the pain and agony we’re suffering,” said Ray Trudeau, Andrew’s father. “I don’t ever want to see anyone else’s picture on a billboard or television ad, and if I do, it means someone else has been killed by a drunk driver and another family is feeling the pain we’re going through. It’s about protecting our kids, and we have to keep doing that.”

The television spots were produced by Beyond Time Media and can be viewed in Windows Media Format on the Screening Room page (use the menu above). The Kingston-based video production company donated all production costs to the Enhanced RIDE Program, which relies on community and corporate donations to fund an average of four RIDE spot checks per week on area roads.

The new ads show a two-year-old Andrew holding his newborn brother Cameron for the first time, opening presents on Christmas morning in 1991, the Trudeau family singing Andrew "Happy Birthday" on his second-birthday, and a seven month old Andrew smiling for the camera.

  • 2006-02-03 TV Series Open Auditions
Beyond Time Media is looking for Kingstonians who can improv for a new series scheduled to shoot in Kingston in March and April. Once produced, the series will be to pitched to Canadian specialty and digital channels later this year.

The series stars real-life Kingston cab driver Shane Doulton (Between Strangers, The Truth About Lying, Isn’t She Great, Bone Collector, Snake Eyes) as Reggie O’Brien and follows his mishaps as a driver for Drover’s Taxi. The open auditions, for men and women ages 18 to 70, will take place Saturday, February 18, 2006 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.at Smijees Bar & Grill, 394 Division Street (between Princess and Brock).

The story focuses on the shenanigans or Reggie and his circle of off-the-wall friends and acquaintances, roles that we will looking to fill at the February 18 Auditions. Because of the mocumentary style of the show, we will be looking for people who can act on the fly without scripted lines.

Unlike convention television productions, the series won’t rely on actors who can delivery memorized lines to the camera. The show has a solid storyline, the characters are well-defined and have emotional depth, but we’re leaving the dialogue in the mouths of the actors to make it real. We need people who can put themselves into wacky situations and hold a straight face, while having some fun. And with the strong theatre community in our area—Queen’s, Domino Theatre, Kingston Improve, Theatre 5, The Improve Show—there is no shortage of great talent in Kingston.

  • Saturday, February 18, 2006
  • 12 noon to 4 p.m.
  • Smijee's Bar & Grill, 394 Division St., Kingston
